235 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND HOPKINS, William S. William was born on September 28, 1915 in Tobermory, ON. He enlisted in the Army in 1939. He served with the Highland Light Infantry in France, Germany and Holland during World War II. He was discharged in 1945 and returned to Tobermory where he operated a meat market, store and coffee shop. He was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defence Medal, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. He was a member of Tobermory Legion Branch 290. William passed away in 1964. HORSLEY, Robert J. Robert was born on November 23, 1923 in Carrying Place, ON. He enlisted in the Army on February 16, 1943. He served with the Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada in Canada, France, Belgium and Holland during World War II. He assaulted Juno Beach on D-Day. He was wounded and hospitalized while serving. He rejoined his regiment in Ghent and was put to work with the Canadian Legion setting up canteens and organizing entertainment for the troops. He married Monique in 1946, they had two sons. After his discharge on May 29, 1946, he spent most of his working life in the transport industry. Robert has been a member of Fred Gies Legion Branch 50 for 10 years. HORN, Edward N. Edward was born on January 25, 1940 in Kapuskasing, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army in November 1957. He served with the Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada in Canada and Germany. Rifleman Horn was discharged in April 1963. Upon returning to civilian life, Edward worked for a local paper mill for 32 years. Edward has been a member of Kapuskasing Legion Branch 85 for 50 years.
