231 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND HOOPER, Raymond Earl Raymond was born in Camden Township, Ontario on April 12, 1919. He enlisted in the Armed Forces on February 4, 1943. Raymond served with the Algonquin Regiment in France. Raymond was killed in action at the young age of 25 by a sniper on August 9, 1944. He left behind three children ages 6 months, 3 & 4 years old. Raymond is well remembered by all his family and friends. HOPKINS, Barney L. Barney was born on May 26, 1934 in Tobermory, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in June 1952. He completed basic training and received a commission at the age of 18. He became a qualified flying instructor at 19 and attained an A1 Flying Instructors Category in 1957. He received the Best Student Award at F-86 Operational Training Unit in 1958. Barney rose from Flight Cadet to Pilot Officer, Flying Officer, Flight Lieutenant, Squadron Leader and finally Wing Commander. Wing Commander Hopkins flew transport and search and rescue missions in the Arctic, Europe, Middle East, Africa, North and South America, and the Pacific. He was involved in evacuating civilians from Iran in 1979.He was discharged in June 1983. He was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration with Bar, the United Nations Medal, the Peacekeeping Medal, and Special Services Medal (NATO). After discharge, he was a pilot for Execaire from 1983-1993 when he retired to Tobermory. Barney has been a member of Tobermory Legion Branch 290. HOPKINS, Alasdair M. Alasdair was born on February 25, 1934 in Toronto, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army on July 14, 1952. He served with the Army Medical Corps in Japan, Korea, Egypt and Israel. He was discharged on August 8, 1981. Alasdair is a Life Member of Dr W. C. (Bill) Little M. M. Legion Branch 147.
