203 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND GRIFFIN, Selwyn Powell Selwyn was born in Burford, Ontario in 1892. He graduated from Trinity College, University of Toronto in 1914. He did his master at Harbord CI in Toronto. He married Maude E. Gundy in 1917. Captain Griffin was a member of the Canadian Expeditionary Force as signaling instructor and served in the Canadian War Records Office in England. GRIFFIN, William Eric William was born on September 25, 1896 in Hamilton, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army in 1915. He served with the Canadian Expeditionary Force, 120th Battalion in Canada, Britain, France, and Belgium during World War I. He volunteered for the 1st Pioneers, building supply railroads to the front. He was discharged in 1919. He was awarded the Military Cross. After the war, he studied law at Osgoode Hall and set up practice in Hamilton, eventually heading the city’s largest law firm. GRIFFIN, Smith Smith was born in Nine Partners, Duchess County, New York, United States on August 9, 1772 to Richard and Mary Griffin. He served as Captain with the 4th Lincoln Militia Regiment during the War of 181214. He was a farmer, mill owner, merchant and preacher. He married Eleanor Culver and had five children and later re-married to Harriet Douglas and had ten children. Smith passed away on September 28, 1849 in Brantford, ON.
