201 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND GRIFFIN, Justus Alonzo Justus was born on June 6, 1846 in Waterdown, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army and served seven years with the 13th Royal Volunteer Regiment. He was employed on several newspapers in Ontario and Manitoba. In 1871 he enlisted in the Battalion of Rifles which went to Fort Garry by the Dawson Canoe Route and spent a year in that service. In 1873, he returned to Hamilton and commenced a printing business, The Griffin & Richmond Co. Ltd. GRIFFIN, Richard Richard was born in Nine Partners, Duchess County, New York, United States in 1780 to Richard and Mary Griffin. He served with the 2nd West Lincoln Regiment during the War of 1812-14. He married Annie Culver, daughter of Ebenezer Culver, and they had two children. He was a farmer by occupation and his descendants occupied the same farm at Smithville into the 1950s. Richard passed away in 1807 in Smithville, ON. GRIFFIN, Nathaniel Nathaniel was born in Nine Partners, Duchess County, New York, United States in 1766 to Richard and Mary Griffin. He served with the 4th Lincoln Militia Regiment during the War of 1812-14. Nathaniel passed away on August 27, 1855 in Middleton, ON.
