381 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND WARRILOW, Percy E. Percy was born on September 24, 1924 in Owen Sound, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy on April 2, 1943 and served on HMS Nabob in the High Seas during World War II. Trained as a Stoker, he was assigned to base Cornwallis, NS. He joined the crew of the Nabob in Vancouver and travelled to Liverpool, England and then to the North Sea with a convoy of 80 ships on the Murmansk run. HMS Nabob was torpedoed on August 23, 1944 and managed to make it to Scapa Flow, Scotland. Percy was assigned to HMCS Stormont which was preparing to go to Japan but they surrendered while he was on leave. He was discharged on September 20, 1945. Percy was awarded the Atlantic Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the 1939-45 War Medal, and the Murmansk Russian Medal. WATKINS, Edward J. Edward was born on July 26, 1926 in Toronto, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army and served with the Infantry as a guard for prisoners of war in England. After he was discharged he retired to Toronto in the Mount Dennis area where he worked until his death. He wore the crossed rifles badge on his uniform to indicate his marksmanship skills. Edward was a member of Mount Dennis Legion Branch 31 for over 40 years before he passed away on December 1, 1991. WATKINS, Charles Milton “Bud” Charles was born in Toronto, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army and served with the Infantry as a messenger runner in England during World War II. Charles was seriously wounded during the war and almost died of his wounds, but luckily lived through this hard time. He retired to Toronto and worked at Sunnybrook hospital for veterans until he passed away on August 15, 1995.
