379 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND WALKER, Thomas E. Thomas was born in England on November 24, 1909. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on June 5, 1928 and served with the King’s Own Royal Regiment, 1st Battalion in Palestine, India, Egypt and Dunkirk during World War II. He was captured at Dunkirk and was a prisoner of war in Stettin Camp from 1940 until he was freed by the Russians in 1945. He was discharged on March 11, 1946. In 1951, he joined up with the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment, Norwood for two years. He was a member of Hastings Legion Branch 106 for 58 years. Thomas passed away on December 23, 2007. WARRILOW, John John was born on February 19, 1923 in Owen Sound, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on November 26, 1942 and served with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders in England, France, Holland and Germany during World War II. He was trained as a driver/mechanic for trucks, tanks and other track vehicles. He transferred to the infantry after arriving in England. The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders were the first allied regiments to move into Holland. John recalls one occasion where he came under fire while driving his jeep and he jumped out moments before the jeep was destroyed by heavy fire from a German machine gun. After his discharge on March 1, 1946, he returned to Russell Brothers Ltd in Owen Sound. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, the France and Germany Star, the 1939-45 Star, and the Victory Medal. John has been a member of Tara Legion Branch 383 for 26 years. WALSH, Kenneth F. Kenneth was born on February 11, 1924 in Waterford, ON to Harold and Lena Walsh. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on April 8, 1943 and served as a trooper with the Sherbrook Fusilier, 27th Canadian Armoured Division in England during World War II. He was severely wounded when his tank was attacked and was the only survivor of his squad. After his discharge on March 15, 1946, he married Madeline Myerscough and settled in Simcoe, ON. He owned and operated Simcoe Parcel Delivery for 45 years. He was a member of the Kinsmen Club, a Life Member of the WhoDid-It-Club and a proud member of Simcoe Legion Branch 79. Kenneth passed away on November 1, 2006.
