359 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND STRESMAN, Victor H. Victor was born on January 18, 1949 in Ottawa, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on February 20, 1967 and served in Germany as a vehicle technician. He was discharged on December 27, 1973 and was awarded the Special Service Medal with NATO Bar. Victor has been a member of Massey Legion Branch 432 for 41 years. SUMMERS, George K. George was born in Abertillery, England on June 9, 1916. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on November 25, 1940. After his training in Winnipeg, he was assigned to the Wireless Training School where he graduated as a wireless air gunner. In November 1941, he was posted overseas via Bermuda where he was part of a crew that flew a Catalina Flying Boat from Bermuda to England. He served with the No. 53 Squadron and two Royal Canadian Air Force Coastal Command Squadrons known as 407 Demon and 415 Swordfish. He flew 28 missions on the Hampden aircraft which carried torpedoes or depth charges. While stationed at Leuchars, Scotland as an instructor, he met his war bride and British War Veteran, Isobel. He was discharged on October 5, 1945. George passed away on January 20, 2004. STRUM, Merritt V. Merritt was born in Saco, Maine, United States on January 28, 1924. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on September 23, 1941 and served with the Sault Ste. Marie and Sudbury Regiment and the Royal Regiment of Canada. He was a medic and a Sergeant and served in England, Scotland and France where he was wounded in battle on July 17, 1942 and discharged on March 17, 1945. His service medals include the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Voluntary Service Medal and the King George VI Victory Medal. He was a member of Bruce Mines Legion Branch 211 for 28 years and was Past President, Past Zone Officer, and was part of the executive committee. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal and the Palm Leaf Award. During this time, he created the Branch museum, gathered photos of local veterans and arranged for poppies to be placed on their tombstones. He also received numerous civilian volunteer awards. Merritt passed away on November 24, 2010.
