355 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND STENABAUGH, Thomas J. Thomas was born on November 26, 1940 in Hearst, ON. He served with the Algonquin Regiment, A Company from 1954-1957 and with the Royal Canadian Navy from 1958-1961 and obtained the rank of Able Seaman Weapons Surface Class I. He took part in the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1961 as part of the Blockade on Cuba, preventing Russian warships from having access. Thomas has been a member of Kapuskasing Legion Branch 85 for 50 years. STEWART, Donald Andrew Donald was born on December 7, 1925 in Vancouver, BC. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy on December 7, 1941 and served in the Pacific, the Atlantic, the Mediterranean and Indian Ocean during World War II. He was discharged in February 1946 and was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the Pacific Star, the Atlantic Star, the Italy Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, the Victory Medal and the Queen Jubilee Medal. Donald has been a member of Fort York Legion Branch 165. STEPHENS, John A. John was born in Cleveland, Ohio, United States on October 7, 1924. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on October 14, 1942 and received his Wireless Badge and Air Gunner’s Badge in 1943. He was a wireless air gunner and qualified for wireless operator air gunner’s duties. John was stationed at Fiskerton, Lincolnshire with Squadron 576, Group 1, Royal Air Force Bomber Command. He was discharged from the Air Force on September 14, 1945. Being a mechanic, he bought a garage in Ivanhoe, ON where he raised six girls with his wife Eileen. They were married on May 3, 1945 in Nottingham, England. He was a member of Belleville Legion Branch 99 for 20 years. John passed away on February 28, 2005.
