333 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND SHEAN, Joseph J. Joseph was born on June 22, 1898 in Osceola, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on April 13, 1915 and served with the 75th Infantry Battalion in England, Germany and France during World War I. He was wounded at Vimy Ridge. Lance Corporal Shean was discharged on April 15, 1919 and in his civilian life worked at Dominion Magnesium in Haley Station until his injured hip no longer allowed him to. He joined Almonte Legion Branch 240 in 1942 and transferred to Cobden & District Legion Branch 550 in 1952. Joseph passed away on August 7, 1965. SHEWFELT, William Albert William was born on January 16, 1914 in Kincardine, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1942 and served as part of the Canadian Air Force Ground Crew during World War II. After basic training in Toronto, he travelled to BC, and later to other parts of Canada. After his discharge in 1945, he owned a store. He was a member of Tiverton Legion Branch 430 and Kincardine Legion Branch 183 for 49 years. William passed away on February 7, 2002. SHEWFELT, Gordon A. Gordon was born on June 8, 1919 in Kincardine, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on December 10, 1942 and served with Artillery before being transferred to the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps. He saw active duty in England during World War II. He married and English girl in 1945 and she followed him to Canada after his discharge on May 14, 1946 where they farmed and raised four children. After his military service, he worked for a cement plant, helping build Douglas Point Nuclear Plant near Trenton, ON. He was a member of Tiverton Legion Branch 430 for 16 years. Gordon passed away on September 10, 1962.
