325 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND RUFF, Alexander T. Alexander was born on May 2, 1974 in Owen Sound, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on June 23, 1993 and served with the Royal Canadian Regiment. Lieutenant-Colonel Ruff served with the Infantry School, the Army Staff and the Canadian Special Forces Command. He deployed domestically during the Ice Storm of 1998 and internationally to Bosnia in 1998-1999 and 2001 and Afghanistan in 2007 and 2012. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Cross in recognition of the actions taken by Hotel Combat Team, 2 Royal Canadian Regiment in 2007 while he was the Company Commander. His most recent appointment was Commanding Officer of 2 Royal Canadian Regiment from 2011-13. He has been a proud member of Tara Legion Branch 282 for 21 years. RUFF, Percy H. Percy was born on September 5, 1898 in England. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on July 10, 1915 and served with the 34th Battalion in Belgium and France during World War I. He was a messenger on a motorcycle taking information to the front lines. Percy became ill while in the war zone and died from a heart condition precipitated by his war service on September 6, 1946. RUFF, John P. “Jack” Jack was born on February 8, 1924 in Tara, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on February 9, 1939 and served with Coastal Command and was a pilot for Navigator and Bomber training. When in New Brunswick, he was on Coastal Command looking for enemy submarines. Warrant Officer Ruff was discharged on October 23, 1945 and went on to work as a psychiatric nursing assistant at the McKinnon Philips Hospital in Owen Sound, ON. Jack passed away on March 6, 1992.
