317 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND REIMER, John Bernard John was born in Essex, England on January 2, 1889. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army in 1914 and served with the 1st Division Signals Company in Belgium, France, England and Germany during World War I. He was in Ypres during the Bombardment of the Town and cathedrals where he had to deliver messages to different commands under the bombardment. He was discharged in 1918 and became a member of Oakridge Legion Branch 73. John passed away on July 3, 1973. RENAULT, Stephen E. Stephen was born on April 17, 1924 in Sault Ste. Marie, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on January 4, 1943 and served with the 13th Field Regiment as a gunner in France and Belgium during World War II. On October 17, 1944, Private Renault and three other soldiers were running a communication wire towards enemy trenches when they were shot at. They were reported missing and the next day a patrol went to look for them, the only body recovered was Stephen. He was awarded the Croix de Guerre, the Defense Medal, the France and Germany Star and the 1939-45 War Medal. RENAULT, George W. George was born on February 1, 1920 in Sault Ste Marie, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on April 10, 1942 and served in the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe during World War II. After his discharge on December 22, 1945, he worked as an electrician in High Falls before moving to Wawa, ON where he was Superintendent of Great Lakes Power. His awards include the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star and the Defense Medal. He was a Life Member of Wawa Legion Branch 429 and served as President and Zone Commander. George passed away on August 5, 1995.
