315 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND RAY, Frank P. Frank was born in Eastbourne, Sussex, England on March 16, 1918. He enlisted in the Army in January 1939 and served with the 3rd Royal Tank Regiment during World War II. Frank served in Egypt, North Africa, France, and the Federal Republic of Germany during his career. He served on the rear guard for Dunkirk in Calais and was evacuated by pleasure boat. He fought in North Africa and Greece where he was captured and spent 4 years as a prisoner of war. Three escapes attempts were made and he finally succeeded on the third attempt, meeting up with the US 36 Infantry Division in Ulm, Germany. He joined the Canadian Army in February 1954 and served in UNEF 1 and in the Federal Republic of Germany with NATO. He was a member of Burlington Legion Branch 60 for 30 years. Frank passed away on January 4, 2002. REECE, Clare J. Clare was born on December 21, 1924 in Windsor, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy on March 5, 1943. He was sent to Fredericton, NB to train as a Radio Artificer. He served on HMCS Niobe, HMCS Kent and HMCS Collingwood in the North Atlantic during World War II. Seaman Reece was discharged on November 29, 1945 and was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the 1939-45 War Medal. After the war, he worked for General Electric and Edwards of Canada and married Penelope (Betty) Murray in 1959 and they had three children. Clare passed away on March 19, 2010. RAY, Michael Michael was born in Eastbourne, Sussex, England on September 21, 1946. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army in July 1966. He served with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry and the Brockville Rifles, and with NATO in Cyprus, the Federal Republic of Germany and the United States. Michael was discharged in October 1996.
