291 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND NEGONNEWINAH, Isaac Isaac was born on November 5, 1886 in Sheshegwaning, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army and served with 227th Battalion during World War I. Isaac passed away on November 14, 1950 and is buried at the Roman Catholic Cemetery on Sheshegwaning First Nation. NICHOLLS, Walter Junior Walter was born on September 7, 1925 in Sarnia, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy on July 23, 1943. Following basic, then submarine detection training in HMCS ships Cornwallis and Stadacona, he joined the new frigate Jonquiere as a trained Able Seaman Submarine Detector (ASDIC Operator). After three Atlantic crossings in escort group C2, Jonquiere was allocated to Escort Group 26 on September 26, 1944, operating primarily from Londonderry. In December, the group, now mostly out of Postmouth, patrolled along the southern English coast in search of U-boats, and escorted convoys across the English Channel to France until the end of hostilities. He was discharged on November 30, 1945 and was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star with Atlantic Clasp, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Overseas Clasp, and the War Medal 1939-45. He married Hazel Fulcher of Sarnia. Walter was a member of Sarnia Legion Branch 62 for 2 years before he passed away on March 19, 2006. His ashes were given to the sea in March 2006. NEGONNEWINAH (NIGANIWINA), Thomas T. Thomas enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army and served with the 119th Battalion, 1st Transways Company Engineers overseas during World War I. Sapper Negonnewinah was killed in action on August 20, 1918 and is buried at the Caix British Cemetery in Somme, France.
