He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on September 4, 1944 and served in the Régiment de la Chaudière in England, Belgium, Holland, and Germany during World War II. He served as part of the Occupation Forces and returned to Canada in 1946. Private Ménard was discharged on May 25, 1946 and was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp. René has been a member of Kapuskasing Legion Branch 85 for 64 years. NEGONAWAH (NIGANIWINA), Eli Louis Eli was born in 1894 in Sheshegwaning, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army and served with 227th Battalion during World War I. He was married to Angeline. Eli was killed in action on October 24, 1916 and is buried at the Sheshegwaning Roman Catholic Cemetery. NEGANIWINA , Daniel Louis Daniel was born on July 3, 1903 in Sheshegwaning, ON. He joined the Royal Canadian Army and served with the 227th Battalion during World War I. After the war he moved to Blind River and worked for J.J. McFadden Lumber Company. Daniel had planned on returning to Sheshegwaning at some point but never did.
