285 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MORING, Kenneth D. “Fred” Fred was born on February 12, 1964 in Bowmanville, ON. He joined the Royal Canadian Army in 1982 and served with the First Battalion of the Royal Canadian Regiment. On April 24, 1982, he came home on a 20 day leave from Petawawa for the first time since he left on January 15 to go to Cornwallis, NS. He graduated from Petawawa on October 14, 1982 and was transferred to London, ON. On November 18, 1982 he went to Alaska for four days by forces helicopter. He went to the march to Dawson City, Yukon in August 1983 for the expedition of 1898 relived, where they brought back a mascot dog, named Klondike. He flew to Norway in March 1983 and on a course in Petawawa in May of that year. He came home on leave on June 7, 1984 and died on June 12 while on his way back to base. MURDY, Clyde M. Clyde was born on July 16, 1923 in Emsdale, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on June 30, 1943 and served with the 1st Battalion, Midland Regiment in the United Kingdom during World War II. He was a trained rifleman in an anti-tank platoon. Following his discharge on April 18, 1945 and worked as a bushman, later owning his own truck to transport the logs to the mills. He and his wife started their family of eight children shortly after returning home from active duty. He was a member of Emsdale Legion Branch 574 for 25 years and Huntsville Legion Branch 232 for 25 years. Clyde passed away on June 15, 2008. MUNTON, Eileen L. Eileen was born in Nottingham, England on January 22, 1923. She enlisted in the Women’s Royal Naval Service in 1941 and served in the women’s Land Army in Great Britain during World War II. On May 3, 1945 she married John A. Stephens, who had served as a wireless operator in the Air Force during World War II. In 1950, they purchased a home and garage in Ivanhoe, ON where they raised their six daughters. Eileen passed away on May 28, 1986 at the Belleville General Hospital in Belleville, ON.
