269 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND McNEVIN, Donald F. Donald was born on July 20, 1921 in Goderich, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on December 10, 1941 and served with the Royal Canadian Artillery, 32 AA Battery during World War II. He was discharged for medical reasons on July 23, 1943. He was awarded the 1939-45 War Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. In his civilian life, he worked as a crewman on Great Lakes ships, and then as a locomotive engineer for CN Rail. Donald passed away on October 20, 1971. McQUADE, Roger H. Roger was born on November 3, 1925 in Omemee, ON. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on November 10, 1943 and served as a Lancaster tail-gunner with No. 428 Squadron, No. 6 Group Bomber Command in Europe. He flew missions from Middleton to St. George Airfield, UK. He was discharged on March 1, 1946 and was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp and the France and Germany Star. He was married to Elzena. He was a member of Harry Brown V.C. Legion Branch 497 for 50 years. Roger passed away on January 12, 2008. McQUADE (McCONNELL), Elzena M. Elzena was born on June 5, 1925 in Omemee, ON. She joined the Royal Canadian Air Force Women’s Division in September 1943. She trained as a wireless operator in Montreal, QC before being posted to Weyburn, SK and then to Gimli, MB. She was demobilized with the rank of Aircraft Woman 1st Class in November 1945. She was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. Her husband, Roger, also served in the Royal Canadian Air Force. She was a member of Harry Brown V.C. Legion Branch 497 for 30 years. Elzena passed away on June 28, 1998.
