267 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND McMULLAN, Joseph M. Joseph was born on November 29, 1928 in Orangeville, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army and began his career in the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry and trained as a paratrooper. He wanted to join the Korean War effort but the military wanted him to teach. He quit the military, but later rejoined as an instructor and joined search and rescue where he stayed as a career military man. Joseph passed away on December 5, 2007. McNAUGHTON, Dorothy C. Dorothy was born on March 11, 1925 in Kirkland Lake, ON. She enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in June 1943 and served at the Signals Office in the Ottawa Headquarters. Part of her work entailed sending notices to the family of killed or missing men. It was a difficult task and she was always afraid to see her brothers’ names on the list. She also sent and received messages in code. She spent some time in Montreal and Trenton. Corporal McNaughton was discharged in May 1946. McNAUGHTON, Alistair Alistair was born on September 4, 1922 in Ottawa, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on October 24, 1942 and served with the 5th division, 4th Anti-Tank Regiment, 49th Battery in the United Kingdom, Italy and Europe. Gunner McNaughton was injured in October 1944 when a CWT truck crushed his chest. He was discharged on February 23, 1946 and returned to work for the Imperial Bank in Kirkland Lake, Timmins and retired as Chief Administrator for the Public School Board in the midseventies in Kapuskasing, ON. He was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp. He was a member of Kapuskasing Legion Branch 85 for 40 years. Alistair passed away on June 6, 2004.
