261 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND McCOMBS, Oren E. Oren was born on August 10, 1915 in Fonthill, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on June 16, 1942 and served with the Royal Canadian Artillery in Continental Europe and the United Kingdom during World War II. He was discharged on January 11, 1946 and was awarded the 1939-45 Star and the France and Germany Star. Oren passed away on November 21, 2003. McKERSIE, Chester Chester was born on March 6, 1920 in Ophir, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army in October 1935 and served with the Sault Ste Marie and Sudbury Regiment in France and Germany during World War II. He was discharged in October 1966. His awards include the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp and the 1939-45 War Medal. He was a member of Bruce Mines Legion Branch 211 for 51 years and was awarded his Life Membership there. Chester passed away on October 5, 1999. McCOURT, Arnold Arnold was born on September 29, 1923 in Osceola, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on June 26, 1941 and served with the Three Rivers Tank Corps in Italy, Holland, Belgium, and Germany during World War II. He was with the first wave of troops that stormed Sicily on July 10, 1943. The Canadians were under the command of the British 8th and Montgomery invaded Italy. For 20 long months the battle continued in Italy. Once the Germans were defeated in Italy, the Canadians were transferred to Holland, Belgium and finally Germany. Arnold was wounded several times but always returned to his regiment. The three Rivers Tank Corps hold 23 Battle Honours – more than any other in the Canadian Army. Arnold has been a member of Corporal Harry Miner, V. C. Legion Branch 185.
