247 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MAKER, Bud A. E. Bud was born on November 10, 1930 in Toronto, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army in August 1950 and served with the No. 2 Royal Canadian Regiment in the United States, Korea and Japan. He was wounded in action in Korea in October 1951. He was discharged in August 1952. Bud has been a member of Whitby Legion Branch 112 for 29 years. MANTO, Harold L. Harold was born on July 4, 1919 in Elmira, ON. He enlisted in the Highland Light Infantry in 1940. After training he was sent to Scotland to prepare for the D-Day assault on June 6, 1944. From Juno Beach, he went to Buron where he was wounded and repatriated to England to recover. He was sent back to Canada on the Lady Nelson medic ship for rehab at the Christie Street Veterans’ Hospital where he met his future wife Margaret. They were married in 1951. Margaret passed away in 2011. Harold now resides at the McVean Lodge in Hanover. His war wounds left him with a limp but it didn’t keep him from leading an active life. He has been a member of Chesley Legion Branch 144. Harold turned 96 on July 4, 2015. MANNING, Patrick F. Patrick was born in Torbay, NL on April 30, 1920. He joined the Merchant Navy in 1941 and served as a bolson on Oceanside, the Eagle, the Nepsons and the Lady Rodney in the high seas, England, Hawaii and India. After his discharge in 1949, he worked as an iron worker until his retirement in 1984. Patrick has been a member of Scarborough Centennial Legion Branch 614 for 29 years.
