239 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MABLEY, Richard Laurence Richard was born on July 5, 1934 in Lansing, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy on November 7, 1951 and served on the HMCS Brockville during World War II. Richard was discharged in 1956. MacKENZIE, Radleigh A. Radleigh was born on February 19, 1927 in Ontario. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve in January 1945. He was drafted to HMCS Montcalm in Quebec City for initial training and then to HMCS Cornwallis. At war’s end, he was drafted back to HMCS York in Toronto for demobilization in November 1945. Having three years with the Sea Cadets plus naval service, he took a commission with the Sea Cadets as midshipman, training officer. He therefore rejoined the RCSC Temeraire II with a Department of Defence charter and remained with that group through several name changes – Temeraire II, Vanguard and finally RCSC Haida. He resigned in 1950, having achieved the rank of First Lieutenant. Radleigh has been a member of Gravenhurst Legion Branch 302 for 2 years. MacDOUGALL, Donald John “Tuffy” Donald was born on September 25, 1925 in Minto, ON. On March 29, 1941, he enlisted in the B Troop of the 100th Light Anti-Aircraft Battery in Guelph, ON. In July 1941, the Battery moved to Camp Sussex, NB for training and sailed for England in November 1941. From there they went on to Colchester for more training, as well as Scotland for firing camps and combined operations. He served as Sergeant in England, France, Holland, Germany and Belgium. After the May 8, 1945 Cease Fire became official, the 100th Battery was given the job of guarding a prisoner of war camp for some time before they returned to Canada in June 1946. Following his discharge in June 1946, Donald worked for the town of Minto as a grader operator, plumber and later as the Town Superintendent of Public Works. He received the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award in 2001 and received the Bicentennial Medal from the Premier of Ontario in 1984. He served two terms as President of Harriston Legion Branch 296 of which he had been a member for over 60 years. Donald passed away on January 21, 2007.
