229 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND LEE, William Robert William was born on December 11, 1922 in Egremont, ON. He joined the Royal Canadian Army at the age of 19 and went overseas in March 1943, first to Scotland and then to England and France. On July 20, 1944, he was taken prisoner in Caen, Normandy and was a prisoner of war for nine months in Germany. He had diphtheria at Christmas 1944. William worked in coal mines in Poland and survived the death march across Germany before being liberated by the Americans on April 13, 1945. He was sent to Hospital in Hanover, Germany and was flown back to England on a stretcher. He was discharged on July 25, 1945. William has been a member of Durham Legion Branch 308 for 40 years. LEGAULT, Edmond Aimé Edmond was born on January 17, 1917 in Cache Bay, ON. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on August 9, 1941 in Toronto, ON. He was sent to Hamilton, ON for trade school. He served with the Royal Canadian Artillery in the United Kingdom, France, Holland, and Germany. He was 25 miles from Berlin when the war ended. Edmond was discharged on January 21, 1946 and was awarded the 1939-45 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Defense Medal, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, and the 1939-45 War Medal. After the war, he returned to mining before returning to Cache Bay where he married and had two sons. He was a member of Sturgeon Falls Legion Branch 225. Edmond passed away of cancer on December 3, 1985 at the age of 68. LEETOOZE, Roger M. J. Roger was born in England on April 4, 1945. He joined the Royal Canadian Army in April 1963 and served with the Canadian Guards. However, health problems resulted in his discharge in October 1963. He has worked at the provincial level of Scouts Canada for 35 years and was awarded the Medal of Merit and the Canada 125 years Medal. Roger has been a member of Bowmanville Legion Branch 178 for 22 years and has held various Chair positions at branch level such as PRO, Youth Education, Ways and Means, and Historian.
