213 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND KILPATRICK, John Ross McLennan John was born on January 17, 1924 in Ottawa, ON. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1943 and served on HMCS Restigouche and HMCS Crescent in the North Atlantic. He was discharged in 1945 and was awarded the Queens Diamond Jubilee Medal. He was a member of Fort York Legion Branch 165 for 20 years. John passed away on March 8, 2014. KNOPF, Gerhard “Gary” A. W. Gary was born in Berlin, Germany on February 19, 1928 and immigrated to Canada in 1951. He attended the University of Toronto and graduated in 1957 with a B.A. in Electrical Engineering. In 1957, he received his Canadian citizenship and joined the Royal Canadian Army in November. He served with the Royal Canadian Signals 8th Signal Regiment. Lieutenant Colonel Knopf was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration and the Queen’s Silver, Gold and Diamond Jubilee medals. He retired on May 1, 2010 after 52 years of service. In civilian life, he was a system planning engineer in the Power System Planning Division of Ontario Hydro until he retired. Gary has been a member of Fort York Legion Branch 165 for 29 years. KLOMPSTRA, Daniel J. Daniel was born on August 11, 1984 in Sarnia, ON. He joined the Royal Canadian Army in September 2005. He served on CFB Bagotville from 2006 to 2008 and with the Canadian Special Operations Forces Command from 2008 to 2010 before he was discharged in September 2010. Daniel has been a member of Corunna Legion Branch 447 for 2 years.
