309 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND TULLY (KING), Kathleen R. Kathleen was born on November 19, 1924 in Toronto, Ontario. She joined the Canadian Women’s Army Corps, No. 2 Company, on June 22, 1943 and served in Canada, England, Holland, France, Belgium and Germany. As part of the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Forces, she went across the Channel but landing was too shallow so they jumped or were pushed with full backpacks onto a floating dock. In Belgium, Kathleen remembers recording by hand the positions of every Canadian soldier on the continent. After liberation, a padre took them to Bergen Belsen Death camp where they took cookies, chocolates, soap and cigarettes to those soldiers still housed in the buildings. The Germans broke through the front lines on Christmas Eve during the Battle of the Bulge but the villagers of Aalst took them into their homes and shared what little they had. Kathleen was discharged on May 23, 1946 and has now been a member of Tillsonburg Legion Branch 153 for fifty-one years. TYMCHUK, William William was born in the Ukraine on January 6, 1921. He joined the Army on July 11, 1940 and served with the Lake Superior Regiment in Canada, England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He was discharged on February 28, 1946. William was awarded the Queen’s Jubilee Medal in October 2012. After the war, he worked as a bricklayer in Toronto. He has been a member of Fairbank Legion Branch 75 for forty-four years. TYKOLIZ, Adam J. Adam was born in Ethelbert, Manitoba on January 6, 1922. He enlisted in the Army in 1942 and served in England, Africa, Italy, Belgium and Holland. He was discharged in March 1945. Adam was awarded the 193945 Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star and the M.R.M.A. He was a member of Port Colborne Legion Branch 56 for sixty-nine years before he passed away on July 17, 1991.
