299 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND TAKERER, Laurel A. Laurel was born on December 17, 1967 in East York, Ontario. She joined the Royal Canadian Army on April 4, 1988 and served with CFS Leitrim, Communications Security Establishment and 2 EW Squadron at CFS Alert and Bosnia. Laurel was discharged on June 20, 2008. She was awarded the Canadian Peacekeeper Service Medal, the Canadian Forces Decoration, the Yugoslavia Non-article 5 and the Special Service Medal (Alert Bar). TAMBEAU, Claude L. Claude was born on February 28, 1940 in Timmins, Ontario. He joined the Army as a Peacekeeper on March 6, 1957 and served Canada with the Royal 22nd Regiment, 2nd Battalion. Private Tambeau was a Paratrooper at Shilo, Manitoba and also spent time at Valcartier, Quebec and doing war exercises in Gagetown, New Brunswick before his discharge on March 6, 1960. Claude is currently President of Timmins Legion Branch 88 and has been a member for more than fifty-one years. TALEVI, Orio Orio was born on June 24, 1922 in Espanola, Ontario. In 1942, he enlisted at the Colonel of Espanola P.O.W. Camp (now the Domtar Pulp and Paper Mill). After the prisoner exchange in 1943, he went to Petawawa, Ontario and became a Gunner. Later that year, he was sent to Kingston and became a wireless operator. In 1944, Orio moved on to Truro, Nova Scotia where he transferred to the Field Artillery but by November of that year, he went overseas to Camp Bordon, England. He was taken off the draft to Italy in early March and was sent to Andover Hampshire to form the 3rd Air O.P Squadron # 666 RCAF. In July 1945, his Squadron was on its way to Holland when the war ended. In 2013, Orio donated a built-to-scale replica of the HMCS Labrador Ice Breaker, featured in the July 2004 Legion Magazine, to the Espanola Sea Cadets. Orio has been a member of Espanola Legion Branch 39 for sixty-six years.
