293 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND STEINHOFF, Albert M. Albert was born on October 2, 1925 in Southampton, Ontario. He joined the Army on September 13, 1943 and served in Canada, the United Kingdom and Italy with the 4th Princess Louise Dragoon Guards. Albert stepped on a mine which resulted in the amputation of his right leg below the knee. He was discharged on July 9, 1945. He received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012. Albert has been a member of Chesley Legion Branch 144 for sixty-one years. STEWART, David William David was born on October 26, 1947 in Hamilton, Ontario. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in January 1965 and served in Canada with: HMCS Cornwallis in Communications School, as a division leader, bugle player and sports player; HMCS Stadacona working in the Communications Centre in dockyard; HMCS Kootenay DDE 258 (the fastest ship in the fleet) as an Able Seaman Signalman traveling the Caribbean, the United States coastline and the Great Lakes leading to a promotion to Leading Seaman; HMCS Star; and HMCS Cataraqui as a communications instructor. Life on board wasn’t all roses as many times, they encountered weather so bad the ships would sustain damage. It was at the Olympic Gardens dance hall in Halifax where he met his wife and partner. They wed in Fairview on February 10, 1968 and been married for almost forty-seven years. David left the service in October 1970 and a month later was working for the Correctional Services of Canada in Kingston, Ontario where he remained for 34 years. David has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion for ten years. STEINKE, Edward F. Edward was born on August 19, 1891 in Ladysmith, Quebec. He enlisted in the Canadian Army and he served during World War I. Edward was a member of the Massey Legion Branch 432 for thirty years before he passed away on September 26, 1976.
