277 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND ROWELL, Lillian Joan Joan was born in Hamilton, Ontario on May 19, 1961. She graduated from the University of Guelph with a degree in Crop Science and enlisted in March 1987 with the Royal Canadian Air Force as an air traffic controller. Her basic training was done in Chilliwack, British Columbia followed by French language training at St. Jean Garrison in Quebec. Joan was posted to Bagotville and went on to Air Traffic Control training in Cornwall, Ontario. Upon completion of the ATC course, she was sent to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan during which time she was promoted to the rank of Captain then posted to NDHQ in Ottawa. Lillian was released in June 1998 and moved to the United States in 2000 where she currently owns a computer consulting company. RUSSELL, John W. “Jack” Jack was born on February 12, 1925 in England. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on September 30, 1943 and served with TAF 2 Squadron 443 in England and on the Continent during WWII. Following his initial training in Toronto, Jack went to Moose Jaw and Yorkton, Saskatchewan then was transferred to Britain where he served with the RCAF Bomber Command until 1944. After the Allies’ successful invasion of Europe in June 1944, he was transferred to Fighter Command and moved to various RCAF stations in The Netherlands and Germany. Upon his discharge in 1946, Jack and his wife Audrey, whom he’d married in 1949, lived in Toronto before relocating to Coe Hill where they lived for many years. Jack was awarded the France and Germany Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the 1939-45 Victory Medal. Jack has been a member of Coe Hill Legion Branch 581 for ten years. RUDOLPH, James Keith James was born in Weston, Ontario on August 3, 1921. He enjoyed hunting, snowshoeing and all types Infantry team sports. At 16, he left school to work at the family lumber mill and at 21, joined the Perth Regiment on August 4, 1943. He was killed in action in Italy on August 31, 1944 and is laid to rest in the Montecchio War Cemetery. For his service, he was awarded six medals for bravery and sacrifice.
