263 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND POWELL, Charles A. W. Charles was born in London, England on April 8, 1924. He enlisted in the Army on August 6, 1942 and served in Canada, England and France with the Fort Garry Horse until his discharge on June 22, 1945. He is a D-Day veteran and was wounded in action on August 13, 1944. Charles has been a member of Fred Gies Legion Branch 50 for many years. PROUD, Clarence C. D. Clarence was born on July 14, 1898 in Walters Falls, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army in Owen Sound on December 20, 1916 and arrived in France in November 1917 to serve with the 4th Canadian Mounted Rifles Battalion. Private Proud was killed in action on August 25, 1918 and he is buried at the Ligny- St. Flochel British Cemetery in Pas de Calais, France. PRIDDLE, Austin W. “Bud” Bud was born in Silver Water, Ontario on December 24, 1923. He served in Italy with the Lord Strathcona’s Horse, 5th Canadian Armoured Division, during WWII. During that time, his tank was hit and he was badly burned. They escaped the tank and were on foot for three days before his boots were cut off and they realized the severity of his burns. Bud was sent to Holland to hospital and after his release, was put back with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry unit there. After the war, he spent many years traveling to Sunnybrook Hospital for treatment of his skin condition caused by the burns. He worked as a bus driver, was a garage owner, an Insurance Broker and a Customs Officer. Bud was on vacation in Florida when he passed away on February 12, 1988 at the age of 64. He was a member of Gore Bay Legion Branch 514 for thirty years.
