261 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND PONTO, Benjamin Benjamin was born on June 14, 1917 in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan. He joined the Army in June 1943 and served with the Cameron Highlanders in England and Continental Europe during World War II. After his discharge in June 1946, he farmed then came to Ontario in 1958 where he met his wife Elsie in Toronto. They adopted two children and have been married for sixty-seven years. He worked as a millwright and thinks of himself as a “jack of all trades” and a lover of boats, snowmobiles and steam engines. Benjamin has been a member of Milton Wesley Legion Branch 426 for sixty-four years. POVEY, Royston A. “Roy” Roy was born on October 10, 1938 in Bristol, England. He joined the Army on January 9, 1958 and served with the 1st Battalion Green Jackets in Cyprus as a Peacekeeper. Discharged on January 1, 1960, Roy was awarded the General Service Medal. He moved back to England and worked in the building trade as a painter and decorator. He came to live in Canada in 1986 and has been a member of Port Perry Legion Branch 419 for twentyseven years. POTTER, Sid Sid was born on December 17, 1924 in Britain. He enlisted in the Merchant Navy in 1943 and served on various ships in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans before his discharge in 1952. From the age of 17 to the year 1943, he served as Broom Man in the British Home Guard, “Dad’s Army”.
