251 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND PEARSON, Lyman R. Lyman was born on September 16, 1923 in Burpee Township, Ontario. He joined the Army on October 1, 1943 and served with #3 Platoon “A”, No. 20 C.A. (B) T. C. Army in the United Kingdom and the Central Mediterranean area. He was a prisoner of war for thirteen months before being discharged on August 8, 1945. Lyman was a member of Little Current Legion Branch 177 before he passed away on August 26, 1996. PERCHALUK, Peter Peter was born on December 20, 1922 in Kitchener, Ontario. At the age of 21, he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on February 5, 1943, trained as an electrician and was soon sent overseas to join bomber squadrons already in operation. He was stationed at RCAF Station Digby, Lincolnshire (which was operated by the RAF until 2005) where he worked on Spitfires and Typhoons. His second posting in July 1944 was to Leeming, Yorkshire (RAF Station Leeming is still in operation). Leeming was home to RCAF’s 427 Squadron from May 1943 to May 1946. The squadron initially used the Halifax V and III bombers before switching to the Avro Lancaster Mk. I and III in March 1945. There, Peter worked on both models of these heavy bombers before he was discharged on May 9, 1946. Peter has been a member of Fred Gies Legion Branch 50 for thirty-three years. PEDDLE, Alphaeus “Bob” Bob was born in Bishops Fall, Newfoundland on February 14, 1943. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on March 28, 1962 at the age of 19 and completed his basic training and Group one Field Engineer at Camp Chilliwack, British Columbia between March and October 1962. He served as a Sapper with the Royal Canadian Engineers and was posted to 2 Field Squadron, Royal Canadian Engineers, at Camp Gagetown, New Brunswick but he transferred to the Canadian Provost Corps in March 1963. Bob did service with the C Pro C in several parts of Canada, Germany and Cyprus and had the privilege of serving with the 2nd Battalion Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry during his tour in Germany. He was most impressed with the spirit of the Corps demonstrated in the infantry. Bob took his release on October 21, 1968 after seven and a half years and spent the next thirty-one and a half with the Metropolitan Toronto Police, from October 21, 1968 to February 28, 2001. He has been a member of Whitby Legion Branch 112 for sixteen years.
