245 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND OWL, Stanley Stanley was born February 21, 1920 in the Sheshegwaning area. He joined the Canadian Army and served during World War II. PAQUETTE, André J. André was born in Chapleau, Ontario on October 11, 1951. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on May 11, 1979 and was discharged on June 3, 1983. He joined 852 RC(AIR)CS as a civilian instructor in March 1979 and received his qualification courses for Basic Officers, Lt, Captains and Commanding Officers at CFB Falconbridge. His promotions include: 2nd Lt on October 1, 1979; A/Lt in October 1979; C.O. appointment in October 1979; Lt on May 26, 1980; Captain on May 26, 1982; and received his commission in May 1980. Through the aid of a government grant and the generosity of local businesses, the Corps was able to move into a refurbished Pump house and claim the building as their own headquarters, tax and rent free. Due to heavier than normal work commitments, the position of Commanding Officer had to be relinquished in October 1984. André became Legion President for seven consecutive years then continued to Zone, District and Provincial where he was elected Provincial President in May 2011 through to May 2013. He has been a member of Harry Searle Legion Branch 5 for forty years. OZOLS, Karlis M. “Karl” Karl was born in Toronto, Ontario on November 28, 1955. He enlisted in the Army on June 6, 1974 and was discharged on July 13, 2000 after serving in Canada, Germany, Cyprus, Yugoslavia and Cambodia. He was posted in: Chilliwack, BC at 3 Field Squadron, 1 Combat Engineer Regiment and Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering; Petawawa, ON at 2 Combat Engineer Regiment; Lahr, Germany at 4 Combat Engineer Regiment; Edmonton, AB at Canadian Airborne Centre; Calgary, AB at 33 Field Engineer Squadron; and London, ON at 32 CBGHQ. He retired as a Warrant Officer, received the SSM with NATO and PEACE bars, UN Peacekeeper, UNICYP, UNPROFOR, UNSSM, Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and Canadian Forces Decoration with Clasp. Karl participated in the construction of the Eagle River Bridge in the Yukon and spent ten years as a paratrooper, amassing 752 descents. He served four years with the Canadian Forces Parachute Team (Skyhawks) and a year as a Technical Advisor with the Cambodian Mine Action Centre. Karl retired to the Charlton/Englehart area where he has been a member of Charlton Legion Branch 227 for twenty-five years.
