243 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND OKE, Clarence S. Clarence was born on May 3, 1913 in Bowmanville, Ontario. He joined the Royal Canadian Signal Corps in March 1942 and was discharged in September 1945. Corporal Oke served in England, Italy, France, Belgium and Holland as part of the Canadian 1st Division, instructing signals in England sent to the Italian Campaign. Clarence was a Life Member of Bowmanville Legion Branch 178 for sixty years before he passed away on June 23, 2005. Through his years as a member of the Branch, he was a Poppy volunteer and was Treasurer for nine years. ORR, Charles Henry Charles was born on June 21, 1897 in Coldwater in Simcoe County, Ontario and enlisted in the Army on October 12, 1915 during World War I. Charles served in Canada and France before being killed in action in the trenches at Hill 70 in Loos, France on August 19, 1917. The reported location of his grave is about one and three-quarter miles north of Lens, France. His name is noted on the monument at Vimy Ridge. O’LEARY, Dennis J. Dennis was born in Fort William, Ontario on April 7, 1951 and he enlisted in the Canadian Army on December 18, 1969 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. After completing recruit training at CFRS Cornwallis in Nova Scotia and his trades training, he was assigned to the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers as a weapons technician, qualified to fix any weapon from a .22 calibre to 155mm self-propelled Howitzer. He also trained as a locksmith. Later, the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers became known as the Land Ordnance Repair and Engineering (LORE). Dennis served at CFB Shilo, in Churchill, MB, Kingston, ON, Gagetown, NB, at the Land Environmental Testing Establishment (LETE) in Ottawa, ON and CFB Borden, ON. He also completed a tour in Lahr, Germany. His medals include the Special Service Medal (NATO) and the Canadian Forces Decoration with Clasp. After serving for over 22 years, Dennis was honourably discharged on April 15, 1992 at the rank of Warrant Officer. He has been a member of Sir Arthur Currie Legion Branch 116 for five years.
