He joined the Army on April 5, 1942 and served with the Oxford Rifles in Canada, England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He was discharged in November 1945. Herbert has been a member of Orillia Legion Branch 34 for forty-eight years. NEYLAN, Daniel F. Daniel was born on July 13, 1924 in Midland, Ontario. He joined the Royal Canadian Army on January 7, 1943 with the 2nd Field REG, 1st Brigade. Daniel served in Canada and England as well as a Gunner on “25” pounder guns in Italy and Holland until his discharge on April 6, 1946. For his service, he was awarded the Italy Star, the Northwest Europe Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and the Victory Medal. Daniel is a member of Midland Legion Branch 80. NEWTON (QUINN), Muriel I. Muriel was born on June 21, 1921 in Kincardine Township, Ontario. She served in Canada with the WRCNS from June 24, 1943 until she was discharged on February 8, 1946. She was part of a secret assignment manning the LORAN Naval Station in East Baccaro, Nova Scotia where allied ships and planes were enabled to safely navigate by chart in order to maintain radio silence. In June 2011, she received the Order of Kincardine, presented to Kincardine area veterans from MacDonald Legion Branch 183 and Bruce Power. She has been a member of Major William Dwight Sharpe Legion Branch 15 and MacDonald Legion Branch 183 for a total of thirty-eight years.
