229 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MORELAND, Lorna V. Lorna was born in Toronto, Ontario on September 5, 1923. She enlisted into the Army in 1941 and served with the Canadian Women’s Army Corps in Vancouver, British Colombia. She was a member of Woodstock Legion Branch 55 and a few other branches before she passed away on August 14, 2001. MORRIS, Gladys H. Gladys was born in Tobermory, Ontario on May 8, 1920. She joined the Royal Canadian Navy on December 2, 1942 at the Galt Training Centre where she served as a Probation WREN until January 1943. From January to June 1943, Gladys was a Stewards Ward Room Assistant at HMCS Kings in Halifax. In July 1943, she was posted to Royal Rhodes in Vancouver, British Columbia as a Ward Room Assistant and in April 1944, Gladys moved to Kingsmill House (HMCS Bytown) in Ottawa as a WREN Wardrobe Assistant. She wrote and passed her Petty Officer exam in 1944 and was discharged in 1945. Gladys was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and she has been a member of Tobermory Legion Branch 290 for a number of years. MORRICE, James W. James was born in Chatham, Ontario on July 16, 1931. He enlisted in the Army on November 1, 1951 and served in the Korean War until October 1953, after which he received two medals for his service. When he was discharged, he came home to Chatham, Ontario and worked at Libby’s followed by a night watchman job in London, Ontario. James married on November 25, 1972 and was a member of Victory Legion Branch 317 for thirty years before he died on March 13, 2013.
