217 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND METCALF, Murray L. Murray was born on February 12, 1922 in Petrolia, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army on August 31, 1942 and served in England and Belgium with the Motor Mechanics C.A.C. Group B and Group C. As a tank operator and mechanic, Murray would remove the gun and transfer six troops at a time to the front lines. All these transfers had to be carried out to needed areas without armament in order to provide space to carry the men. On his discharge on April 19, 1946, he applied for a veteran’s farm loan to start farming in Enniskillen Township which he did until he retired. Murray was a member of the Petrolia Legion Branch number 216 until his passing on June 18, 2011. MILLAR, Thomas G. “Tom” Tom was born on October 20, 1935 in Uxbridge, Ontario. He enlisted in the Royal 2nd Battalion at #6 Depot in Toronto on March 25, 1954 and did his basic training at Wolseley Barracks in London, Ontario. He served with the Royal Canadian Regiment in Continental Europe and Germany until his discharge on April 5, 1957 in London, Ontario. He was stationed in Soest, Germany from July 1954 to November 18, 1955. Tom was awarded the Special Service Medal with NATO Bar and was present when Prince Mountbatten and The Regimental Colonel presented the Royal Canadian Regiment with their Colours in 1955. He has been a member of Whitby Legion Branch 112 for fifty-seven years. METCALF, Wesley J. Wesley was born on February 9, 1917 in Enniskillen Township. He entered the Royal Canadian Ordnance Corps of the Royal Canadian Army on August 16, 1943 and served as a Storeman “C”. Wesley was discharged on March 26, 1946 after which he applied for a veteran’s loan and began farming in the Brigden area in Ontario. Wesley passed away on May 22, 2000.
