209 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND MCKAY, Gordon C. Gordon was born in 1910 in Blanchard Township, Ontario. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941 and was a member of the Canadian Pathfinder Squadron 405. Gordon had completed 25 tours of operations when on August 16, 1943, his plane set out from Gransden, England on a bombing run to Turin, Italy. The plane was lost on the return leg of the trip. The pilot of the plane was posthumously awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. MCKEOWN, William G. “Bill” Bill was born on April 28, 1924 in Toronto, Ontario and he married Dorothy Dalton in 1942. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in October, 1942 and trained in Edmonton, Alberta, serving in Canada and Newfoundland. He was discharged in April 1946, soon after which he joined the Toronto Police Force where he worked until his retirement from the EFT in 1977 with the rank of Sergeant. He and his wife raised three children in Toronto then they moved to the farm country near Warkworth, Ontario. Once settled, Bill became the area building inspector and permit issuer. After Dot’s passing, Bill remarried and moved to Cobourg. He was a member of Warkworth Legion Branch 380 for ten years until he passed away on December 6, 2007. MCKAY, Thomas K. Thomas was born on July 24, 1921 in Stratford, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army on June 24, 1940 and served in Canada, the United Kingdom and the central Mediterranean area with the Perth Regiment. Tom returned to civilian life on October 23, 1945 and purchased a 100-acre farm in Fullarton Township. After acquiring a herd of purebred Holstein cattle, he farmed for 30 years. Thomas was awarded a Life Membership from Mitchell Legion Branch 128. He passed away on September 5, 2006.
