He served with the Canadian Infantry Corps. Submitted by Arras Branch #059, The Royal Canadian Legion VALLILLEE Ronald Richard PEACETIME Ron was born in Ottawa in 1931. He proudly served in the Royal Canadian Navy for 30 years as a pay writer, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer 2nd class in 1981. During his time, Ron served on ships HMCS Kootenay, Nootka, Cap de la Madeleine and Saguenay sailing to Texas; San Juan, Puerto Rico; Hudson Bay and many patrols up and down the Atlantic Coast. Ron was stationed in Canadian Forces Bases: Stadacona, Shearwater, York, Cornwallis, Hochelaga and d’lberville. Ron met his wife Dorthy, a Wren in the pay office in Stadacona, they were married in 1964 at HMCS Shearwater. They later had four children. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Carleton Branch for eighteen years, also a member of the Yarmouth Branch and lastly a member of the Kingston Branch after he and his wife of 59 years relocated to the Annapolis Valley. He was still shooting pool and the Kingston Legion at the age of 91 years old. Ron passed away in September 2023 at the age of 92 a very proud sailor and his family immensely proud of him. Submitted by Family WARDROPE, Allan Roger WWII Roger was born in Gull Lake, Saskatchewan in 1925 and enlisted in the CanadianAmy when he was seventeen. He joined the North Nova Scotia Highlanders and served overseas in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. Roger was wounded several times and was captured along with ten other North Nova Scotia Highlanders from Truro and Amherst area during the Normandy Campaign and imprisoned in Leipzig area. They had a hard time during the move from Caen to Germany as they were jammed into box cars for 23 days and received a little food and water every other day. They were freed by the U.S. 1st Army in 1945. Roger received the 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and War Medal 1939-1945. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Elmsdale Branch 48 for 62 years. Roger passed away on April 6, 2009. Submitted by Family
