He was awarded the Italy Star, France and Germany Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, the 1939-1945 Medal (Normandy), and the Holland Medal. He enlisted in the Army with the 85th Battalion Nova Scotia Highlanders, serving in France and Belgium during World War I. Walter was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion in Bear River and Clementsport. Sergeant Walter Morine was a cook all his life. He was proud of his service and the service of his family.
