Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of The Royal Canadian Legion www.ns.legion.ca 99 Gunner Guy Stewart Spidle was born on 19 May 1897 in New Cornwall NS to Enoch and Mary Elizabeth Spidle. He enlisted in the CEF on 10 November 1915 in Halifax, after serving for 7 months with No.1 Siege Battery. Guy was discharged in May 1919. He married Jennie Muriel Whynot of Mahone Bay on 7 September 1920. Guy died in March 1966 in Brockton, Plymouth, Massachusetts. Gunner Morris Wilson was born at Indian Point NS on 4 September 1898. He served for 14 months as a reserve soldier before enlisting in the CEF at Halifax on 16 November 1915. He was discharged in May 1919. Gunner Edgar Bruce Westhaver was born in Mader’s Cove NS on 4 December 1894. He enlisted in the CEF in Halifax on 10 November 1915 and was discharged in 1919. Edgar died in May 1976 and is buried in Mahone Bay. Sergeant Otto Percy William Westhaver was born in Mahone Bay NS on 22 November 1896 to Peter and Priscilla Westhaver. He was a student and had served for 13 months with the Composite Battalion, in Halifax, when he enlisted in the CEF on 17 November 1915. He was discharged in May 1919 and died in Mahone Bay on 20 September 1982. Gunner Sidney Everett Guy Westhaver was born in Mader’s Cove NS on 5 October 1896 to Stephen and Zipporal Westhaver. He was a carpenter by trade and enlisted in the CEF in Halifax on 10 November 1915. He was discharged in May 1919. Sidney married Audrey E. Butler in 1920. He died on 13 June 1984. Gunner David Hiram Whynot was born in Mahone Bay NS on 25 November 1897 to Hiram and Annabelle Walker Whynot. He grew up in Oakland and was still 15 days short of his 18th birthday when he lied about his age and enlisted in the CEF on 10 November 1915. He was discharged in May 1919. Lieutenant Wilfred Roy Marryat enlisted in the Royal Canadian Garrison Artillery of the CEF on 18 November 1915, in Halifax NS. He was posted to 1st Siege Battery and was commissioned from the ranks and served as a lieutenant. Upon enlisting he declared that he was a tailor by trade; had been born in Mahone Bay on 29 December 1886; his parents were John and Mary Jane Marryat; he had 4 years prior service with the Garrison Artillery; and that his next of kin was his wife, Elva, of Mahone Bay. Wilfred was posted to the St Lucia Battery and arrived in St Lucia on 30 November 1915. He spent the duration of the war in the Caribbean. He broke his left arm on 24 February 1919, prior to leaving St Lucia, when he was kicked by a horse. Wilfred was discharged in Halifax on 19 April. Wilfred enlisted in the RCNVR during WW II and became a commissioned shipwright. In June 1944, naval Lieutenant Wilfred Marryat was made a Member of the British Empire (MBE) for his service during WW II. He died in 1970 and is buried in Mahone Bay. YARMOUTH COUNTY Bombardier Melbourne Moulaison was born in Bear River, Yarmouth County, on 17 May 1895. He was a mill hand who had served as a reserve soldier with the 29th Battery for 7 months when he enlisted in the CEF on 16 November 1915. Melbourne was granted permission, while in St Lucia service, to marry Rachael De Brettes. He was discharged in May 1919. Melbourne Moulaison served in the American Merchant Marine during WW II. He was killed in action on 27 May 1942 when his ship, Army Transport JACK, was torpedoed by U-558 about 100 miles southwest of Port Salut, Haiti.
