Served with the Royal Newfoundland Regiment, A Company from July 22, 1918 to August 4, 1919. Posted in England and Cairo. DECEASED GOUGH, Newman Service # 1918 Born in Elliston, Trinity Bay, NL on June 10, 1896. Served with the Royal Newfoundland Regiment, 6 Platoon from October 15, 1915 to April 24, 1919. DECEASED HAYLEY, Leonard Service # 1000 Born in Bonavista, NL on March 25, 1896. Served with the Royal Newfoundland Regiment. Deployed in Gallipoli and was wounded in the arm while fighting and sent to Cairo, Egypt to a hospital to heal. Also deployed to the Somme and fought in the battle of BeaumontHamel on July 1, 1916, when most of the Newfoundland Regiment was wiped out. Wounded in the throat by a sniper bullet while climbing out of the trenches and sent to the 3rd London General Hospital to heal. Released from service and returned to Newfoundland.
