Areas Posted; Scotland. William passed away on November 10, 1976. MARTIN, Leslie Born on April 27, 1921 in St. Mary’s Bay. Served with the Merchant Navy. Leslie passed away in January 1992. MATTHEWS, Robert Francis Service # 798639 Born in Grand Falls-Windsor in 1923. Joined the Royal Air Force on December 26, 1940 and after training was posted to the 9th Squadron. On January 18, 1943 he was killed in action when the aircraft was shot down during a bombing raid on Germany. He is buried in a collective grave with the other members of the air crew at Hamburg Cemetery in Germany.
