Served for the Merchant Marines during WWI and with the British Admiralty Tug Services from July 3, 1942 to July 1, 1946. Received the Mercantile Marine ribbon and medal along with the British Marine ribbon and medal. Passed away on January 5, 1980. WALSH, Patrick Joseph Service # 286 Born in St. John’s in 1898. Served for The Royal Newfoundland Regiment from September 5, 1914 to May 16, 1919. Was one of the first 500 of the RNR. Died in 1961. WHELAN, James Service # 1251 Born in Chapel’s Cove on September 14, 1892. Served for The Royal Newfoundland Regiment from October 27, 1914 to March 18, 1919. Served on ships SS Kabie, HMS Alsatian and HMS Benson. Passed away on June 29, 1968.
