Lest We Forget - Volume 19 www.legionnl.ca 3 On Memorial Day, July 1, 2019 a new member was added to the Trail of The Caribou with the unveiling of the latest Caribou Monument in Main Brook, NL, memorializing 45 residents who served in the Canadian Armed Forces from the beginning of WW1 to the present day. The local residents wanted to do something special to commemorate the one hundredth anniversary of The Great War and those from their community who served. A committee was struck to make inquiries and do fundraising for this tremendous undertaking. Fifty thousand dollars was required and with contributions from the Department of Veterans Affair, The Royal Canadian Legion and local and former residents as well as many fundraising events the committee reached its goal and the Caribou Monument was erected and ready for unveiling on July 1st, 2019, thus extending the trail of the famous Caribou Monument all the way to the northern tip of the island, home of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment.
