He served with the 17th Contingent of the Royal Navy from 1941 to 1946. He passed away on 20th November, 1990. Why Do We Wear those Poppies? “Why do we wear those poppies?” I heard a small girl say. I heard her mother answer, “Because memories grow that way. When each person wears a poppy It makes a memory grow So we remember those who fought for freedom So far and long ago.”
