Military Service Recognition Book - Volume 4

War Service Recognition Booklet 34 Is proud to honour our Veterans “Lest We Forget” Message from the Minister of Municipal and Provincial Affairs This is the time of year when we remember the service and achievements of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians who served during the first and second World Wars and the Korean War. We also honour the memory of those who lost their lives to provide us with one of the most basic human rights, freedom. The ultimate sacrifice our men and women made to their country must never be forgotten. One of the most valuable means we have to keep their memory alive is through the work of the Royal Canadian Legion and in particular the Newfoundland and Labrador Command. This outstanding organization tirelessly advocates on behalf of veterans. It also provides valuable opportunities for our young people through scholarships and youthsponsored programs such as Cadets. The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador fully supports the Royal Canadian Legion and recognizes the contributions it makes to our society. I encourage all residents of the province to wear the poppy during November to show respect for our veterans and those who sacrificed their lives. I also encourage residents to attend Remembrance Day events in their communities. Lest we forget. Jack Byrne, Minister Municipal and Provincial Affairs DR. BRENDAN D. LEWIS, M.D. FRCSC D.P.
