They say to remember, but do we really? Do we truly remember? Or has it become something that we are told to do? These men and women have fought many battles to keep us a free country, But all they ever get is a poppy on our chests and two minutes of silence. Remembrance Day is about so much more, so much more than most can comprehend. We say we are thankful, and most are, but what are we thankful for? Is it the fact that we might not have a free country, or that the war might still be going on? You can say thank you, but you will never know what they faced unless you have seen it firsthand. The frozen fingers and toes that never seemed to be warm. The empty stomachs and terrible pain. The deaths of brothers and sisters, who will never see their family again. The experience of war is not just something to be remembered and thanked for. November 11th is a solemn day and most celebrate, when in reality, we need to pray; Pray that we will never see those days again. Where suffering and hunger is more prominent than happiness and love. There needs to be a way to say thank you and know what we are thanking them for. Is it for going to war and saving the country or for risking their lives to help make future generations free? Remembrance Day has become a day off from school and work but nothing more than that. There must be a way, to say Thank you for what you have done, And truly understand what they have done for us and what they have gone through. Thank you to all soldiers, dead and alive, you live in my heart and mind. Someday people will understand and mean it when they say, Remembrance Day, the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.
