Allen was born in England and served with Coastal Command from 1941 until 1946. He was a Wireless Operator/Navigator aboard Sunderland Flying Boats. Allen served on the Faroe Islands during Operation Valentine as well as in Capetown, South Africa. After the war, Allen married Joan T. Cragg, who was a Nursing Sister in the Royal Navy. Shortly after they emigrated to Saint John where he opened his medical practice as a Podiatrist. Dr. Sellars and Joan were members of the Carleton Branch #2 of the Royal Canadian Legion. SMITH, Laurie Rawleigh WWII/Deuxième Guerre mondiale Laurie was born in Wood Point, NB in 1921. He enlisted with the Canadian Army in 1943 and was posted to the Canadian Army Training Center No 70 in Fredericton. Gunner Smith completed his training and shipped out to serve in the UK, Continental Europe and the Central Mediterranean Area. He suffered a gunshot wound to the back of his head and chest while in the field. At the time the doctors thought they had removed all shrapnel but in 1979 a doctor in Sackville remove a bullet tip from his head. Laurie was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, the Italy Star, the France and Germany Star, the War Medal 1939-1945 and the CVSM with Clasp. He was a long-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Sackville Branch 26. He passed away in 2015. Laurie est né en 1921 à Wood Point, au N.-B. Il s’est enrôlé dans l’Armée canadienne en 1943 et a été affecté au Centre d’instruction de l’Armée canadienne n° 70 à Fredericton. L’artilleur Smith a terminé sa formation et a été envoyé au Royaume-Uni, en Europe continentale et dans la région de la Méditerranée centrale. Il a subi une blessure par balle à l’arrière de la tête et de la poitrine alors qu’il était sur le terrain. À l’époque, les médecins pensaient avoir retiré tous les éclats d’obus, mais en 1979, un médecin de Sackville lui a retiré une pointe de balle de la tête. Laurie a reçu l’Étoile de 1939-1945, l’Étoile d’Italie, l’Étoile France-Allemagne, la Médaille de la guerre de 1939-1945 et la Médaille canadienne du volontaire avec agrafe. Il a longtemps été membre de la Légion royale canadienne, filiale 26 de Sackville. Il est décédé en 2015.
