97 The Royal Canadian Legion www.mbnwo.legion.ca FRAMPTON, Verla Margaret Alice WWII Verla was born on November 11, 1922, to Arthur and Ada Frampton in Neepawa. She received her education there. Verla enlisted in the Canadian Women’s Army Corps and served at No. 10 District Depot and A3 Artillery Training Centre in Shilo. She was promoted to the rank of Corporal in November 1943. Verla was first married to a Johnson and then later to Lawrence Slezak. They lived in Neepawa. Verla passed away on March 24, 1994, and was buried in Riverside Cemetery in Neepawa, Lot 28, Block A, Range NW 1/4, NG. FREEMAN, Ernest “Ernie” WWII Ernie was born on October 22, 1917, to Fred and Emily (Stratfield) Freeman in Franklin, Manitoba. He received his education there and in 1937 he began in the business, F. A. Freeman & Sons. In 1957, he took it over and it became Freeman’s Solo Store. In 1942, Ernest enlisted with the Canadian Army and served as a gunner in Shilo. He was discharged in 1944. Ernie married Margaret Brydon in Arden, Manitoba on June 19, 1946. They lived in Franklin and Ernie was the postmaster there from 1950 to 1971. They moved to Neepawa that year and he managed the Co-op grocery until 1974. Ernie passed away on October 16, 1982, and was buried in Riverside Cemetery in Neepawa, Lot 9, Block 9, Range 24. GAULT, Frederick William Clayton “Clay” WWII Clay was born in 1918 in Homewood, Manitoba, educated in Winnipeg, and was a graduate of Musker Engineering. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941 and served in Dauphin and Winnipeg. He returned to Dauphin working for Kidd Motors and later became associated with McColl Frontenac (Texaco) in Killarney and Neepawa as consignee. He later owned and operated Texaco Hi-Way Service. After retiring, he formed Clay Enterprises. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion in Neepawa, Manitoba. Clay passed away on May 8, 1994, in Neepawa.
