215 The Royal Canadian Legion www.mbnwo.legion.ca WITKO, Theodore WWII Theodore was born on November 2, 1920, to Andrew and Anne Witko in Garson, Manitoba and received his education there. He joined and served with the Canadian Army during World War II. Ted married his wife, Elsie Parasiuk, in 1949 and they lived in Neepawa, Manitoba. He passed away on January 11, 1991, and was buried in Riverside Cemetery in Neepawa. WOOD, Angus Campbell WWII Angus was born on August 25, 1919, to Angus and Effie (Preece) Wood in Kelwood, Manitoba. He received his education there. In 1943, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and served with the Bluenose 434 Squadron. He flew two successful tours over Germany. After his discharge and return to Kelwood, Angus married Murriel Innes in 1951. He worked at Riding Mountain National Park until 1964 when they moved to Kelowna, British Columbia. There, he served as secretary manager of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 26 for several years. In 1971, they relocated to Victoria where he worked for the Liquor Distribution Branch until his retirement in 1979. They were there until 2006 when they returned home to Kelwood. Angus passed away on December 13, 2008, and was buried in the Kelwood Cemetery. WRIGHT, Arthur John WWII Arthur was born on August 12, 1920, to John and Mabel (Gamble) Wright in Wellwood, Manitoba. He was raised there and farmed in Wellwood until October 1941 when he enlisted in the army in Brandon, Manitoba. After joining, he trained with the Fort Garry Horse. Arthur then served overseas in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe, first with the 59 Field Battalion from October 1941 to July 1943 and then with the 15 Field Battalion from July 1943 to February 1946. After receiving his discharge on February 9, 1946, Arthur returned to Wellwood in 1947. He received the 1939-1945 Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, and Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Arthur was able to borrow enough money to purchase a remaining portion of land from his grandfather’s estate (which had been sold due to the depression of the 1930s.) On April 20, 1950, Arthur married Lilla Jean McCullough and they spent their married lives farming in the Wellwood area. They had seven children. Arthur passed away on September 5, 2006 and is buried in the Riverside Cemetery in Neepawa.
