213 The Royal Canadian Legion www.mbnwo.legion.ca WILLIAMSON, Reginald “Rex” WWII Rex was born on March 2, 1921, to Reginald and Ada (Harvey) Williamson on the farm in the Gordon School District. He also attended Franklin High School. He joined the Army on July 19, 1941 with the 18th Armoured Car Regiment. He served with the Canadian Forces in Canada (West Coast) from December 1941 to April 1942, and then with the 12th Manitoba Dragoons in England, France, and Belgium. After contracting rheumatic fever during action on the western front, he was invalided home in March 1945 and continued convalescence until his official discharge in August of that year. When the war ended, Rex went to the University of Manitoba and earned his degree in Engineering in 1950. He went to work for C.D. Howe Co. in 1951, where they designed wharfs, grain elevators, bridges, nuclear plants, etc. He remained there until his retirement in 1964. Rex married Colleen Trench Stewart in Winnipeg on May 8, 1948 and they resided in Thunder Bay, Ontario. He passed away on August 1, 2000 and was buried at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Thunder Bay. WILSON, Edna Mildred WWI Edna was born on February 12, 1889, to John and Agnes (Orton) Wilson in Coldwater, Ontario. Later, her family moved to Kelwood. Nurse Wilson received her diploma as nurse from Dauphin Hospital and trained there between 1913 and 1916. Following her training course, Nurse Wilson followed her profession for a time in Dauphin. She enlisted with the C.A.M.C. on September 20, 1916, in Regina and served overseas with the 22nd Calvary Field Ambulance. When nurses were called for to go overseas, she readily and cheerfully responded to the call, joining the Imperial force of nurses. While in England, she ministered to the many and varied needs of suffering soldiers at Brighton, (London by the Sea), that most refreshing retreat for the wounded. After her discharge on July 10, 1919, Edna went to work at the Ross Park Military Hospital in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. She married Ernest Hotchin about 1920. Edna passed away in 1990 in Regina. WILSON, Robert Magnus WWI Robert was born in Gladstone, Manitoba, on May 26, 1898. He enlisted in the Army in 1916 with the 12th Field Ambulance. He married Olive McNair Wilson on June 29, 1926. She passed away on June 22, 1958. He was a life member of The Royal Canadian Legion Gladstone Branch 110. Robert passed away on January 16, 1984, at the age of 85.
