199 The Royal Canadian Legion www.mbnwo.legion.ca VIVIAN, Lewis WWII Lewis was born on December 25, 1916, to George and Frances (Sanderson) Vivian in St. Boniface, Manitoba. He came to Neepawa to live with his uncle and aunt, Lewis and Annie Vivian, in 1937. He enlisted in March 1941 with the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II and served with the 170 Ferry Squadron in England and in Canada. After his discharge in August 1945, he and his brother, George, took over the King Edward Hotel from their uncle Lewis. Lewis married Evelyn Curtis and they live in Neepawa. He passed away on November 19, 2008 and was buried in Riverside Cemetery in Neepawa, Lot 6, Block 3, Range 18. WADDELL, Victor George “Vic” PEACETIME Vic was born in Hamilton, Ontario on November 15, 1935. He received his education in Hamilton, graduating from Delta Collegiate. After graduation, in 1953, Vic joined the Royal Canadian Artillery and after ten years, he transferred to the Canadian Forces Medical Service. During his years of military service, he served at CFB Shilo, Camp Gagetown NB, Ottawa NDHQ, Oakville ON, Calgary AB, and CFB Winnipeg (deputy commander, 1st Field Ambulance). He retired in May 1985 with the rank of Major. In 1960, Vic married Arlene Butterfield, the eldest daughter of Margaret and Bill Butterfield of McCreary. She received her education at Rosamond School in McCreary. She took nurse’s training in Misericordia Hospital in Winnipeg and graduated in 1960. Her nursing career took her to various cities across the country where Vic’s postings occurred. After Vic retired from the forces, they moved to McCreary where Arlene was employed as Director of Nursing of the McCreary/Alonsa Health Centre. In 1989, Vic accepted the position as Administrator of the new Erickson District Health Centre where he was employed for five years. Following retirement, Vic and Arlene were involved in many activities and organizations in the community. They chose Erickson as the ideal place to retire. Vic was a member of the Town Council. Vic and Arlene had two children, Bruce and Wendy. Bruce, born in 1962, graduated from Veterinary College in Saskatoon and operated the Shoal Lake Veterinary Clinic, and Wendy, born in 1964, received her Bachelor of Nursing degree at the University of Manitoba. Vic and his wife Arlene celebrated their 40th anniversary in 2000. He was an active member of The Royal Canadian Legion during his career, particularly the Erickson Branch 143. Vic passed away in 2016.
